Albuquerque born, American Bass-baritone Tzvi Bat Asherah is rapidly gaining momentum in the operatic hemisphere. His recent accolades include being named the 1st Place & the People’s Choice Award, winner of the Dallas Opera National Vocal Competition in 2026. During the 2026 Metropolitan Opera’s Laffont Competition, he was a winner of the Houston district and was awarded 3rd place at the Gulf Coast region. Tzvi sang in the 2025 Butler International Competition and was granted 3rd place in the finals. For the fall of 2026, he joins the Butler Studio program at Houston Grand Opera.

This season at Houston Grand Opera, Tzvi performs a selection from Wagner’s Das Rheingold as Alberich in the studio showcase, followed by singing Speaker in their Family Day production of Mozart’s The Magic Flute, & finally as the Notary in Strauss’ splendid Der Rosenkavalier. Recently, Tzvi returned to The Santa Fe Opera as Zaretsky in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, sang Ford in Verdi’s Falstaff at the Shepherd School of Music, appeared with Ars Lyrica Houston as Plutone in Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo, & performed the titular Elijah from Mendelssohn’s dramatic oratorio.

He spent much of his undergraduate studies at the University of New Mexico immersed in their opera theatre program. During his time there he was given the opportunity to play Figaro in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, Papageno in Die Zauberflöte, Superintendent Budd from Britten’s Albert Herring, as well as the Town Magistrate in Pasatieri’s Signor Deluso. All these roles served as catalysts to build Tzvi’s knowledge and passion for his craft and further his understanding of operatic style. Directly following that, he had the distinct pleasure of spending his first summer as an apprentice artist at The Santa Fe Opera where he made his professional debut as Waiter 3 in Der Rosenkavalier.

He obtained his Master of Music from the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University in 2026 after studying with Robin Rice. Tzvi holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of New Mexico which he obtained in 2024.
